Performance Achievements 10-11
Exceeding national targets for preventing reoffending (reducing first time entrants to the youth justice system and reducing reoffending), young people ending an intervention receiving suitable education training and employment, and the use of custody.
Reducing Reoffending – the YOS have demonstrated a reduction of 18.2% in the rate of reoffences. This is significantly higher than the national average of 9.2% and the regional average where an increase was observed.
Use of Custody – In 2010/11 1.9% of young people sentenced, received a custodial outcome. Despite Sunderland being one of the larger YOTs the service continues to maintain a significantly lower custodial rate than the Regional or National average.
Diversity – 2010/11 analysis shows there continue to be no issues in Sunderland of the over representation of any ethnic minority group within the offending population.
ETE – 90.8% of young people ending an intervention were in suitable full time ETE. Sunderland YOS have maintained an outturn of over 90% across the last four quarters. This is a significant achievement given the challenges of an indicator of this nature.
FTEs – Sunderland demonstrated a significant reduction of 48% in the number of FTEs when compared to 2009/10. This
far exceeded the 2008-2011 target of a 1.9% year on year reduction.
